5 Tips That Can Help In Planning Your Trade Show Event Logistics
On September 27, 2008 in General Thoughts
More and more trade show exhibitors are adding additional events to their trade shows and convention programs. They take advantage of the large gatherings of industry related personnel. It’s a great opportunity to gather and have a captive audience. There are quite a few things to get together, planning is essential. Any things can go wrong, be prepared for them. You want to be fully prepaid for all that will come your way.
1. There are many things that can go wrong. The first thing you have to do is to make sure your event keep on track. Many things can happen that can make your event go wrong. Stay focus and do not be discouraged when anything goes wrong. You want the event to be successful you are an instrumental part in the event, do not get frustrated. Be patient and keep motivated so that everything keeps on track
2. You have to make sure that you are not planning your event for a day that is already taken by another event. You want to keep the dates open so that you are not interfering with other big parties because you want everyone to show up to yours. You will want to check the dates that are best first so that you can start planning the big party. Once you have the right date, you can then start to book everything else so that you are able to make sure everyone can come.
3. Keeping thing running on track is very important. One must say focus for it is easy for some items to fall through the cracks. Make sure all that is ordered is confirmed; get receipts and confirmations that way you can have a record to check on later. It is important to get what you pay for. You must have a record to draw back to.
4. Unexpected thing can happen, always stay focus for small thing can happen. Make sure you have a backup plan for certain situations. You will find that when you are prepared with a second plan, when a problem occurs it’s not that bad. Being prepared for this is a plus on your part. Back up plans are great and better if you do not have to use them.
5. Making the best even happen is not going to happen on its own. You have to say on top of things and stay motivated. The perfect event can happen but you must be focus and you must stay on top of things. One must be ready at all times to work even when you do not feel like it. Being committed to the event will and can be rewarding when everything turns out fine. Failures in events are usally from lack of great coordination. Being prepared is a keep factor in making your trade show event successful.
In planning your next event at your next trade show I would look to a great exhibit company that can help in the coordination of your off site event as well as a company that can also help with your trade show display at the main convention.
Gas Gift Certificates are a great present for anytime
On September 27, 2008 in General Thoughts
With today’s exorbitant fuel prices, who wouldn’t be thrilled to receive a prepaid gas card or a prepaid fuel card? And wouldn’t it be great to know that you eased the pinch on the wallet for a friend or family member through your gift? Gas is definitely an all-affecting commodity, and helping someone pay for it, even if just one or two fill-ups, means a lot.
Gas gift certificates are available through gas companies themselves, and also, increasingly, through retailers and other avenues. Furthermore, not only do the gas gift certificates pay for the gas, but they also frequently come with additional bonuses. For instance, some companies over a percentage discount when a gas card is used. Other gas gift certificates enable users to accrue points and use them for later benefits, much like occurs with mileage credit cards.
Although they’re sure to be welcome at any time, there are certain occasions when gas gift certificates are particularly appropriate gifts. For instance, if you have college student friends or family who are going to school within driving distance of home, gas gift cards are an excellent way to help keep them from getting too homesick. In addition, a couple going on a honeymoon and traveling by car, what better way to show you care - and contribute to the most memorable trip of their lives - than helping them get there?
And don’t forget that prepaid discounted gas cards can also be a great present to yourself! If you get a card that offers discounts or points, at least there will be something you receive in return for all you shell out for fuel.
How to Memorialize Your Loved One
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
When you are faced with the circumstances of grieving after your loved one has passed away, it often seems like an overwhelming ordeal to get through. Memorializing your loved one can contribute to working through the grieving process, for several reasons.
First, it gives the individual(s) they have left behind a way to remember them. It also pays due respect to the one who has passed on. There are many ways that you can memorialize the person who has died. The options may vary, but the important thing to remember in this process is to find the one that will be unique to you and your situation.
One of the more modern ways to memorialize your deceased loved one is to create an online book of remembrance. Vevovox.com offers a place where you can do just that. This unique web site offers up not only the web space, but also the tools you need to celebrate the life of your loved one. At Vevovox, you are able to create a biography that describes your loved one.
In addition, you and other family members and friends can contribute to an online image gallery in which you can hold on to the memories that everyone shares. Each person will undoubtedly have different memories, and the combination of all contributed memories creates another biography of sorts, only in a visual way.
Each person must create their own unique memorial that works for them. It is your memorial and your tribute. Make it be as unique as your relationship with your loved one was.
Webhosting For Your Business
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
Your marketing people can no longer afford to ignore the growing influence of the internet, and have started to push for your company’s business presence on the web. The question is, where will you host your web site? Here are some things you need to keep track of when it comes to affordable webhosting:
1. What Do You Want?
If you’re thinking of just slapping together some kind of online brochure, then the simplest of shared webhosting packages is all you need. Perhaps you can get by with less than 100MB of hard disk space.
If you would like to reach out to more people, however, you will need to look forward and envision a web site that continuously grows with content. In such a scenario, don’t be surprised if more visitors flock to your web site and post their thoughts right on your web pages.
That kind of web site will require a content management system, and a popular choice among bloggers is WordPress. For this, you will need to budget around 400MB of hard disk space.
2. Who Will Write?
Will your web site offer changing content? Or will it offer reference-like information? The answer to that question will determine if you will need a solitary webmaster, or if you can harness the cooperation of group of managers.
Your webhost provider must have a reliable internet connection to allow your team members to rapidly add info to your site no matter where they are in the world.
Who can provide reliable webhosting? Those are companies which have demonstrated high uptime (meaning, your site is secure. People have different experiences with various webhosts, so it helps to visit forums.
In the end, be flexible with your webhosting requirements, and you will eventually find the webhosting package that’s right for you.
BBQ Right! And Enjoy The Good Bluegrass Music!
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
I’ve been working hard here lately and now it’s time for some BBQ and Bluegrass Music! Some of my favorite bands are Rhonda Vincent and The Rage, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, Dale McCoury Band, Dan Tyminski and any band that has a great mandolin picker.
We have a local BBQ place that knows how to do BBQ Right! Sometimes we go over there on Friday orSaturday night, eat some good BBQ and listen to great bluegrassmusic. The other night the band played some Ralph Stanely, Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs tunes. I asked my wife to please get me a copy of the Flatt and Scruggs old TV shows for my birthday. I think she will!
Speaking of BBQ, do you know how Natural Gas vs Propane vs Charcoal stacks up? I am thinking about getting a Grill and was wondering which one is best. Nothing like some good ribs basted in barbeque sauce fixed on an open grill on Saturday night! Almost forgot the beverage, NOT! A cool, refreshing cold drink of choice puts the final touch on the meal.
Oh, on a totally different subject, I am in the process of re-doing my home office and ran across a site that has a ton of good information on such topics as Outfitting a Home Office, Choosing An Office Copier and lots more. They also have a ton of office equipment and supplies to help with the make over. So this should make my new project go a lot faster which means I can get back to the BBQ and Bluegrass Music!
Sell Your House Through a Private Property Sale
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
It seems that lately not a day goes by without some new financial emergency hitting the world markets. Just the other day we saw the failure of the Lehman Brothers, one of the biggest investment banks in the United States.
Personally I think they deserved it since the CEO awarded himself a $22 million bonus in March this year. Like there was no problem! Just a little ironic that they were fishing for a 22 million bailout just before they went bust!
Care to help out Mr Fuld? Yeah right.
The bugbear is it affects everyone. The stock markets around the world reacted in dread to this latest breakdown and the economies of many countries have had a whopping cash injection to help try to get through this.
But this is only the start. Many were forecasting AIG to be the next victim (now bailed out) and the massive Washington Mutual are not looking good. Even if these two enormous institutions go down chances are it will not stop the freefall. The Dow Jones is actually still very close to its all-time highs meaning it has a lot further to go!
All this helps to kill the confidence of the consumer affecting everything from the amount we outlay on groceries to how much we choose to pay for a house. Speaking of the housing sector, estate agents and all the businesses which are attached to the housing market are experiencing very rough times indeed. One of the many reasons estate agents are in so much trouble is because many people have appreciated that they can use the net to sell their abode privately bypassing paying the agents their fees.
Actually if you want to quickly sell your house in a general private property sale it has never been easier. A quick lookup on google will reveal literally hundreds of places where you can advertise your home privately. It’s a very keen thing to do which could safeguard you many thousands. Something well worth doing as the purse strings tighten!
What Is Causing Your Computer to Run Slowly?
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
When your computer doesn’t respond as quickly as it once did, using it can be frustrating. Programs start up and run slowly. Shutting down your computer can also be a painful wait.
If you want your old computer to run like it was new, then you’ll have to identify the real problem(s) causing its sluggishness. That’s when you can apply the right solution which will fix the problem.
Here are a few possible causes:
Memory Shortage
If you notice your computer slowing down while you have several applications, programs, windows or browsers opened at the same time, then your problem may be due to low RAM. Adding RAM memory can fix this problem.
Viral Infections
Viruses can cause your computer to run slow. A good anti-virus scanner can remove the virus that may be slowing down your computer’s performance.
Spyware
You might have adware or spyware installed on your computer and not know it. Anti-spyware programs can find these little programs on your hard drive and delete them for you.
Fragmentation
Over time, files get scattered to pieces everywhere on your hard-drive. Performing a defrag on your hard drive using either the built-in Windows defrag utility or a third-party software program is helpful.
Hardware Problems
The problem might be physical, such as a bad CPU or motherboard. A replacement of these internal parts will improve performance.
Registry Problems
Doing routine things like installing and uninstalling programs can clutter your registry with unnecessary entries — these leftover entries slow down your computer. There are registry repair or registry fix software programs that will detect and clean up errors inside your Windows registry.
What is Identity Theft?
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
Identity theft is an ever present issue in modern Britain. Every year, there are countless reports on ID theft in papers, on television, and all over the internet - it’s hard not to be aware of the issue at hand. So why do so many of us still fall victim to identity theft?
The answer is usually quite straightforward: People simply aren’t taking the necessary amount of care with their personal details. Despite endless warnings about identity theft, people maintain the mindset that it just won’t happen to them, provided they don’t do anything extreme, such as posting their credit card details all over the internet. The unfortunate truth is that identity thieves need far less information than you would think to open a bank account or complete a transaction, for example.
Thieves can also find the information they want in unlikely places - social networking sites such as facebook were recently highlighted as being a possible security risk when ID fraud is concerned, with many people of all ages sharing details such as full names and addresses without any apparent concern.
Even more alarming is the fact that there has been little change in the sort of confidential data families are divulging to potential thieves simply by being careless with what they throw away. Names, addresses, even entire bank statements have been found in typical family bins throughout the country , almost as many as the last time the government decided to try investigate and find out why ID fraudsters were becoming, it seemed, increasingly successful in their efforts to use others’ identities for their own devices.
A big part of the issue is simply having the common sense to properly dispose of and remove waste - bin raiders have no qualms about digging through bags upon bags of rubbish if it gets them a credit card number or two - not only can they be used as they wish, they can also make money selling the details of the card on to others. The documents should be disposed of properly, there are many confidential shredding services available.
The public must be made more aware that ID theft problem has a constant presence, and that they always need to be on their guard as much as possible or risk losing time, money and dignity. In the most extreme cases some of those who fall victim to ID theft have been falsely accused of heinous crimes and making transactions they had no involvement in at all, usually not even being present in the location where the fraudulent transaction took place. While most of these cases can be resolved in the end, it is a lengthy process and the victim’s reputation among the community can be permanently tarnished by this point. While this is only the worst case scenario, the list of problems one can face when their details get into the wrong hands and find themselves a victim of identity fraud is seemingly endless.
Identity theft can do far more than just cause a slight delay and inconvenience. Jobs can be lost, reputations tarnished…all because someone (not necessarily the victim themselves; sometimes a company such as a bank or building society) wasn’t careful enough and an ID thief helped themselves to their records.
Number One Empowering Question For Parents
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
All parents know that children are copy-cats. In reality, they mimic so frequently, and so perfectly, that they are virtually “copying machines”. They mimic what you say, the way in which you articulate it, and in what situations you say it. They emulate the way you move, how you conduct yourself, how you act in response to things, how you treat other people, and pretty much anything else you do.
But parents also realize that sometimes, we desire to teach them one thing, and they learn something else. For example, you’re attempting to teach your child about gardening and how much fun it is to nurture vegetables, but they learn how to run a mile when they catch sight of a caterpillar or a spider, creating a brand new life-long dread (or plain “extreme repulsion”).
The challenge is needless to say that children learn at a phenomenal rate. They just don’t reliably learn that which you need them to learn. And it’s even worse because occasionally you don’t know (or don’t even consider) what you intend your child to learn.
But choosing what you mean your child to learn is not important when you’re sitting alongside your daughter attempting to teach them something. Well, it is important, but it’s evidently at the front of your attention. The significant times are when you are not trying to overtly teach your child something, but they are going to discover something nevertheless. It’s at these times that you really need to be aware of what your child is learning.
For example, if you and your partner are quarrelling about something, and either of you curses and stamps off rather than dealing with the arguement coherently and fairly, what will your child learn? Well, the foremost thing they’ll learn is a new word, one that you don’t care for them shouting in public! The next thing they’re liable to learn is: “when in a spat, stamp off rather than managing it.” Or something resembling that, at any rate.
So knowing that your child is going to learn something in EVERY circumstance they are in is critical. Choosing in advance what you’d like them to discover is something different. And that’s the reason why the number one empowering question for parents is: what do I want my child to learn from this?
If you can maintain a question like this in your mind as much as possible, and especially where you are hugely emotive or reacting from routine, you’ll begin to have an extraordinary ability to have an effect on your child even more than you do currently. You’ll be able to show them more of how you yearn for them to behave, in a fashion that’s more like you when you are on top form, rather than you at your most horrible. You’ll be able to congruently say “do what I do AND what I say”, without distressing so much about your words and behaviour being in accordance. You’ll be able to tell your child as they age why you do the things you do, realising that they’ll previously have had years of noticing you act in keeping with your values and rules.
But… you will only succeed in doing this if you have a vital attitude that parents have to maintain, something that makes this empowering question effective. Without help, the question is of use, but it’s not the only thing you need to have.
Read part 2 of this article to find out what that attitude is…
Parvo Virus in Dogs - Dog Parvo Symptoms
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
Does your Dog Have Parvo Virus?
What exactly is parvo virus, what dog parvo symptoms do you need to look out for, and how is parvo virus spread?
Parvo virus was first identified in 1978 and within two years’ time it spread all over the world. Over the years, the parvovirus has mutated into two different strains and there is evidence of a third strain present in Italy, Spain and Vietnam. Every case of canine parvo virus or CPV comes from the first two strains. It was originally felt that this virus would mutate into feline panleukopenia, a feline parvo virus, but there was no truth to this. Every different specie has its own parvo virus and it cannot be spread outside of the specie.
Parvo virus cannot be spread from a dog to a cat or from a bird to a cat, but it can be spread by contact. For example if you cat happens to wander through your neighbor’s yard and picks up the virus on her feet, she can bring parvo virus into your home and your dog could be infected in this way. Unfortunately, our 8 month old puppy that we acquired from the pound recently came down with parvovirus. She had all of the classic dog parvo symptoms, yet we did not realize what was wrong. We took her to our vet and treatment was commenced immediately. After a four day stay at the veterinary hospital, Lucy was ready to come home. We were very pleasantly surprised by our vet bill!
The parvo virus works in one of two ways – through the heart or the intestines. The intestinal infection is picked up by an animal through oral contact with contaminated feces. In other words, a dog has to come into contaminated feces from another dog. The intestinal dog parvo symptoms happen when the virus attacks rapidly dividing cells in the intestinal crypts, lymph nodes and bone marrow. This allows normally occurring bacteria from the intestine to enter the blood stream make the animal contagious. The virus is shed in the stool for up to three weeks making this disease very contagious to non-vaccinated pets.
The cardio form of this infection is often seen in puppies that are infected from the womb or shortly after birth. It is well worth noting that the cardiac form of CPV is not as common since the mother passes immunity on to her puppies from birth. The parvovirus then attacks the heart in the infected pup and death results shortly thereafter.
Dog parvo symptoms are usually present within 3 to 10 days of contact. They include vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea and fever. The diarrhea will cause severe dehydration and secondary infections. Rather than dying from the virus itself, it is usually the secondary infections that kill.
A veterinarian will recommend that you get your pet vaccinated against parvo approximately eight weeks after the puppy is weaned. With the prevalence of this virus and its ability to kill, some precaution should be taken to protect your dog. Get your puppy vaccinated – we speak from experience!
But vaccinations don’t always give full coverage. Survival rate depends on how quickly parvo virus is diagnosed and treatment is begun. If it is not caught early enough, the usual conventional treatment is an IV through which fluids are pushed to re-hydrate the dog more quickly. In addition to the fluids, antibiotic and anti-nausea shots may be given intramuscularly. With the proper care the prognosis is good, but without it your dog is sentenced to an early death.
There are also natural methods of treating parvo virus. But whichever type of treatment you choose, choose it quickly. Do not delay in treating this deadly condition. A dog can die within hours of the first parvo symptoms appearing.
Golf Etiquette - First Things First
On September 26, 2008 in General Thoughts
Golf is an honorable game based upon an ancient set of rules and code of behavior. What’s more, it puts you at a significant advantage to understand the fundamentals of golf etiquette prior to stepping on the golf course for the first time.
Most people who have played golf for any length of time, do so with an innate sense of responsibility to uphold and adhere to the long held traditions of this gentlemanly game.
No matter if you’re playing alone, or you’re in a group of two, three or even four you must still observe the etiquette of golf. Remain observant at all times of the group or person playing in front of you and ensure they are at a safe distance ahead before you play your shot.
Patience is a virtue when playing golf, so do not pressure the group in front if they are playing a little slower than your group. It’s a good idea to try and adjust the pace of your play to suit the speed of the groups, both in front and behind you. By doing this, you will minimize any frustration that you may feel at being held up and in all probability your game will benefit from a more even pace.
A good habit to develop, while you’re waiting to play your shot, is to go to your own ball and start to visualize the shot you want to play. Work out the direction you need to hit towards and the club you will want to use. By doing this, you will be able to maintain your concentration and control over your game. When it is your turn to play, you will be focussed and ready.
A greatly appreciated point of etiquette is to allow the person or group playing behind you to play through if you or your group are holding them up. Simply stand aside and wave them through and then wait until they are out of range before continuing on with your game.
Be mindful of your playing partners and when they are going to play their stroke. When someone is preparing to have a shot, it is important to remain totally quiet and respectful of their right to concentrate and focus. Always stand behind them and out of their line of sight. It can be very annoying to hear someone rattle their car keys or jingle some coins just as you’re about to start your backswing.
Most people when they play their strokes, take a scrape of turf and dirt with them on their follow through. It’s very important to replace the grass divot in the hole you created if possible and stamp it down with your foot. Most golf courses provide small buckets which you can fill with dirt to also help with repairing divots. By doing this you ensure that the grass recovers sufficiently quickly for the grounds keeper to maintain the best playing surface possible. Likewise if your ball creates a pug mark in the green where it lands, repair that as well.
When on the putting green, never, ever, walk across the line your playing partners ball will take when they putt. Putting commences with the player whose ball is the furthest from the hole and the hole is complete once all players have putted their ball in. Replace the flag in the hole and leave the green at the rear, so as to allow the group following to play up to the hole without worrying if they’re going to hit anyone.
Whilst waiting for your turn to tee off at the next hole, fill in your scorecard. The player with the lowest score on the previous hole always tees of first.
These are just the basic elements of golf etiquette and whilst the more you play the more you will learn, the simple rules listed above will ensure that you will have an enjoyable game of golf right from the outset and that you will always have other people ready and willing to play with you.
Above all, when in doubt…do as you would want others to do to you!
